Chiddingstone Castle, Edenbridge & Pashley Manor Gardens, Ticehurst
Wednesday 23 September 2020

Chiddingstone Castle (near Edenbridge, Kent) and Pashley Manor (near Wadhurst, East Sussex) on Tuesday, 19th May.  This will include coffee and biscuits on arrival and a guided tour at the Castle plus an introductory talk at Pashley Manor.  It does not include lunch which will be available to buy at Pashley Manor Gardens cafe. Tickets for this will be on sale at the March & April lectures. The cost will be £45.

Chiddingstone Castle has Tudor origins, Victorian rooms and was remodelled in the 19th century to resemble a medieval castle. It has been owned and lived in by an eclectic mix of people: the Streatfield family, Lord Astor, military forces during WWII, Long Dene School and the collector Denys Eyre Bower.

In 1955, Bower bought Chiddingstone Castle to house his extensive collections of art and antiquities. His dream was to share his collections with the nation and to preserve them for future generations.

After his death in 1977, a charitable trust was set up to honour his wish.

At Pashley you will discover 11 acres of beautiful borders and vistas – the culmination of a lifetime of passion for gardening, an appetite for beauty and an admiration of the tradition of the English country garden.  These award winning gardens, on the border of Sussex and Kent, are family owned and maintained – visitors often express delight at the attention to detail displayed throughout and the intimate, peaceful atmosphere.
